Top things to do in Tokyo

1. Eat brunch at Tsukiji Market: this is a food lover’s paradise. You really could spend hours there just eating at countless stalls. You must get some fresh sushi, in particular the tuna, which is as fresh as it comes. The wagyu sandwiches are also very good, and of course the stuffed mochi with a strawberry on top.

2. Explore your imagination at teamLab Planets: an immersive art installation. They expanded the exhibition in 2025, adding 1.5 times its total space. You must go barefoot, so just an FYI, as it was something I did not expect.

3. Meiji Jingu Shrine: a tranquil respite in the city. This Shinto shrine is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by an evergreen forest. The shrine is right next to Yoyogi Park, which is perfect for a stroll during cherry blossom season.

4. Harajuku: Gwen Stefani put Harajuku’s street culture on the map in 2004. Over the last 15 years, it’s become more mainstream and is now overrun with tourists and commercial brands. It’s still worth a visit as some street style in the backstreets still exists, and there is also a plethora of animal cafes there such as hedgehogs, capybaras, or cats.

5. Get a stunning view of Tokyo at night at Shibuya Sky: the most coveted tickets are for dusk; however, we thought the panoramic night views were spectacular, with laser lights, an illuminated world map, and lit tables.

6. Shop until you drop: there is a lot of shopping to be had in Tokyo. From pharmacy staples like the viral rice mask to Onitsuka Tiger, vintage luxury goods, and custom guitars. I would advise doing some research on what you want to purchase (as not everything is cheaper) and making sure you have your passport with you for the tax-free benefits.

7. Eat the freshest sushi you will ever eat: you can't go to Tokyo without trying at least one Omakase. Daiwa Sushi is superb, Sugita or Akira are on my list.

8. Have a night cap at New York Bar at Park Hyatt hotel, where Lost in Translation was filmed.

It gained worldwide recognition after being featured in the film “Lost in Translation.” This 5-star luxury hotel has unparalleled service, old world charm, and is in the heart of Shinjuku. Park Hyatt Tokyo is a must-consider option for discerning travelers seeking a truly unforgettable experience. The hotel went through a large scale renovation from 2024-2026 and recently just opened. The main difference that we noticed were that rooms are now more modern with a neutral palette and updated bathroom, television, and electronics.

We always have breakfast at Girandole, if possible, and make reservations for dinner at New York Grill (must get Japanese beef like the Kobe Sirloin or Miyagi Tenderloin) We also never skip a drink at the iconic NY Bar no matter how tired we are.

Top Things to Do In Seoul

1. Get a beauty treatment: Seoul is the mecca of cutting edge beauty treatments at a fraction of the cost in the U.S. The city offers a range of services from scalp treatments to laser resurfacing to plastic surgery. Be sure to do research on the procedures and clinics and choose one that is reputable or recommended.

2. Shop until you drop: the city is known for its amazing shopping from high end luxury (where some brands can be 15% cheaper), fashion, toys/trinkets, and snacks you will only find in Korea. A must buy is K-beauty products at Olive Young. Their sunscreens are world class and many are not available in the U.S. with the same ingredients. Olive Young’s flagship store is in N.Seongsu.

3. N Seoul Tower: get a panoramic view of the city and enjoy the hike up to the tower. Buy a colorful lock and join the thousands of “love locks” secured on the fence at the base of the tower. Don’t forget to pick up a postcard and stamp in the observatory store and mail yourself a note.

4. Eat at Mr. Ahn’s Craft Makgeolli: this was the best meal we had in Seoul. Ingredients were farm fresh and dishes were creative and delicious. Reservations needed.

5. Starfield Library: this beautiful library spans two stories and bathed in natural light. Be sure to get there early to avoid the crowds.

6. Seongsudong: dubbed the “Brooklyn of Seoul,” this district is home to pop up shops, boutiques, cafes, and local artists. Check out Amore Pacific, Onion Bakery, Matin Kim, Tambourins for luxury fragrances, and why not swing into Dior (be sure to wade past all the influencers outside first).

7. Changdeokgung Palace: this Palace is renowned for its Secret Garden where advance tickets are needed. The garden features a tranquil oasis of traditional landscaping and old buildings. Rent a hanbok, a traditional Korean dress, near the palace and take some beautiful pictures.

8. Check out a speakeasy: we went to Charles H in the Four Season’s Hotel. The atmosphere and drinks were intoxicating.

Top Things to do in Kauai

1. Unplug and relax: Kauai is all about relaxing, sitting by the pool or beach, and taking in the sounds of the waves and lush greenery of the island.

2. Hike the Kalalau Trail: the most beautiful hike brings you spectacular views of the Napali coast. Try to hike to the beach which is 2 miles one way and be rewarded with some fun in the water and perhaps a picnic before trekking back.

3. Tubing in an old plantation: this adventure has been the highlight of our trip the last two times. An open air van will take you from Lihue to the mountain where you will go tubing in the plantation ditch and tunnel system that once irrigated sugar cane crops. Guides at Kauai Backcountry Adventures are top notch, some will even serenade you will ukulele music in the tunnels. End this 3hr tour with a picnic lunch.

4. Swim with sea Turtles: Poipu Beach is a calm cove where kids love to play, turtles love to swim and sunbathe, and snorkelers get to see an abundance of fish and coral. For peak turtle spotting, come late afternoon. Be sure to abide by the law and keep your distance from these majestic creatures.

5. Visit the “Grand Canyon” of the Pacific: the views at Waimea Canyon State Park are breathtaking. You will see waterfalls, bright red soil, and rolling hills.

6. Hob Nob Around Princeville: Princeville is definitely the pinnacle of luxury on the island. Walk the grounds at 1 Hotel Hanalei, check out Tunnels Beach and swim in Hanalei Bay.
